Hear It! Practice It! Live It!
I created the curricula for these 4 workshops for use in a brief therapy application, using CBT. I promoted the workshops, taught them, and also trained other group leaders.
This workshop uses cognitive behavior therapy's ABC model. Participants are challenged to work in groups, helping each other through the ABC steps. On their own, participants journal triggering events during their week. Participants are encouraged to set weekly goals (exercise, pleasurable activities, social activities) and monitor their moods at the end of each day comparing and contrasting daily moods with goals met.
Participants learn to step into the other person's world as they view multiple perspectives on a communication problem. They learn to identify ineffective communication. Through role play, participants bring real life conflicts into the group and are taught how to communicate effectively.
Participants learn how to identify methods of non-verbal communication, observe and practice examples of positive and negative body language. Enunciation and pronunciation are reviewed. Participants practice opening a conversation with a previously unknown person and journal about the experience.
Participants complete a sleep diary to aid in identifying precursors to poor sleep. They learn tips for getting a good's night sleep. Through progressive muscle relaxation, journaling, identifying and analyzing sleep patterns, they learn how to get a good night's sleep.
